Exactly one year and a week ago the idea of AppEvent came out of a simple thought: There are so much unique applications in the AppStore that might be made by a developer from the same village I am living. But many of these Apps from locals are not discovered yet. So we thought we are going to do something about that, AppEvent is going to let the Dutch and Belgium iPhone users discover these great Apps made by local developers that are not so visible because of the 300.000 Apps shouting for attention in the AppStore.
The First edition of AppEvent, in January 2010, was a big hit. The original idea was to give away a free App, from Dutch and Belgium developers, every day for 15 days long. But we discovered that many developers where interested in our event. Also the iPhone users from The Netherlands and Belgium where enthusiastic, they downloaded the available Apps 250.000 times. Many Apps where in the top10 from the AppStore rankings for free Apps. With the second edition of AppEvent, there where 72 Apps to give away for free and downloaded 600.000 times.
Because we want to put Dutch and Belgium developers in the spotlight again, and let the iPhone and iPad users enjoy the use of free Apps from local developers, AppEvent is coming back in January 2011. The event will be better and bigger than ever! The whole month January we will give away a free App every day for the iPhone and/or iPad.
